HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College athletic department celebrated the Class of 2017 at its annual Senior Award Ceremony on Tuesday night in Gooding Arena.

After Director of Athletics Wendy Smith '87 welcomed the attendees, senior women's basketball player Clio Bodie represented the senior class as she gave a reflection of what it means to be a Haverford College student-athlete for four years.

The night also included a video tribute to the senior athletes as well as the department's achievements in competition, the classroom and the community.

Smith closed out the night by announcing the winners of the senior awards determined by the athletic department. The A.W. "Pop" Haddleton Award is given for perseverance, dedication and loyalty, recognizing senior student-athletes for outstanding contribution to an athletic team but who may not have received recognition that, for example, a regular starting player does. Averi Gaines (women's lacrosse), Abby Frerotte (field hockey) and Alex Alavi (women's soccer) earned the award for their commitment to their respective teams and positive attitudes over their four-year careers at Haverford.

The Stephen G. Cary '37 Award, which is given to the senior who has made the greatest overall impact on the Haverford athletic program through a combination of athletic participation and achievement, leadership, sportsmanship and off-field athletic department involvement, went to volleyball player Valentine Courouble. Courouble, a team captain and first-team All-Centennial conference selection in 2016, was a member of the 2014 Haverford squad that reached the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. She is an active member of the athletic training staff at Haverford, assisting tirelessly with the administrative and logistical procedures of the office. She is also a member of the strength and conditioning advisory committee.

The Gregory Kannerstein '63 Award, formerly the Alumni-Varsity Club Award, was presented to PJ Jackson, Sarina Manetta, and Maclyn Willigan.

Sarina Manetta has been a mainstay for the Haverford program, taking home three all-conference honors, including two straight first-team selections in 2016 and 2017. In 2017, Manetta set a new single-season program high in draw controls (64) and draw controls per game (4.00). Manetta leaves Haverford in the top five in program history in draw controls (3rd) and games played (4th).

PJ Jackson was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 and led the men's lacrosse team to within seconds of its first playoff appearance since the 2011 season. Jackson graduates from Haverford as a two-time All-Centennial Conference performer after earning honorable mention accolades as a junior. A team captain, Jackson is ranked third all-time in school history with 72 career caused turnovers.

Maclyn Willigan was a four-year starter on the men's soccer team which recently graduated the winningest class in program history. Willigan started 72 of his 73 career appearances as the Fords accumulated a combined 54-19-7 record over the last four seasons. During that time, the team hosted the Centennial Conference Championship three times, won back-to-back Centennial Conference Championships in 2015 and 2016, and hosted NCAA Tournament Games on Walton Field in both championship years. A team captain, Willigan is a two-time All-Centennial Conference performer, earning second-team honors as a junior and first-team honors this season. He was named Centennial Conference Tournament MVP during the 2016 championship and went on to be named a first-team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection.

Will Corkery was the final award winner of the night as he received the Varsity Cup as the most outstanding athlete of the senior class. Corkery was also a captain of the winningest men's soccer class in school history. During the 2015 season when Haverford advanced all the way to the Elite Eight on Walton Field, Corkery broke the program record with seven game-winning goals as he was named a first-team D3Soccer All-American. Known nationally for his set piece prowess, he was also honored as the Centennial Conference Tournament MVP during the first of Haverford's back-to-back championship teams.

A three-time all-conference performer, Corkery followed up his first-team honors in 2015 with a second-team showing despite only playing in 11 games as a senior. He appeared in 68 games during his career, starting 50 of those contests. He ranks fifth all-time in the storied program's history with 25 career assists after leading the conference in that category during his sophomore and junior seasons. As a senior, Corkery accumulated 12 points despite only playing in those 11 contests.

Also recognized on Tuesday were those current senior team members who will graduate as owners of school records which included Will Corkery (men's soccer), Sam Miller (men's soccer), Kathy Prescott (women's soccer), Ben Verducci (baseball), Kendall Chambers (softball) and Sarina Manetta (women's lacrosse).
