Inaugural Haverstrong Competition Set for December 1

Inaugural Haverstrong Competition Set for December 1

Haverstrong Registration Form

HAVERFORD, Pa.  – The inaugural Haverstrong fitness competition is coming to Haverford College's Gardner Integrated Athletic Center on Saturday, December 1 at 11 a.m. The event will serve as a prelude to the annual Joe Schwartz 3K Run/Walk in the spring, and will provide yet another source of funding for Haverford's efforts to support The ALS Association of Philadelphia in their quest to defeat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

The friendly, yet spirited competition will consist of events that are similar to those that one might see at a Strongman or Strongwoman competition. Participants will compete in a circuit that includes a dead lift, sandbag carry, arm-over-arm pull, pull ups, and a load and push. Points will be given on the basis of each strength-based event. Awards will be announced in open, women's, and men's divisions, with prizes for both novice and advanced competitors.

The competition is both an individual and team-based event, and participants can form squads with up to five competitors. Creative team names are encouraged and the best team name will win a prize.

Interested participants are encouraged to pre-register by Tuesday, November 20 by 5 p.m. to ensure a free event T-shirt. Event-day registration will also be available from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 am in the Arn and Nancy Tellem Fitness Center. The entry fee is $10 for Haverford College students and family members under the age of 18 and $15 for Haverford College community member adults (faculty, staff, alumni, and family members).

For more information, or to pre-register, please contact Assistant Fitness Center Director / Strength and Conditioning Coach Nat Ballenberg '07 (nballenberg@haverford.edu or 610-896-4237). A training program for Haverstrong has been established on the TeamBuildr app. Anyone interested in joining the training program can also contact the fitness center staff for further instructions.
