Haverford hosts Centennial championships for women's basketball, track & field

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College will play a big part in the Centennial Conference's upcoming championship weekend as the Fords will host the 2013-14 women's basketball  and men's and women's track & field championships.

The women's basketball semifinals will kick off the action-packed weekend on Friday night in Gooding Arena. Hosting the Centennial Final Four for the first time in program history by virtue of their top finish in the regular-season standings, the Fords (21-3, 15-3 CC) will take on fifth-seeded Gettysburg College at 6 p.m. The second semfinal, featuring second-seeded McDaniel College and third-seeded Johns Hopkins University, is slated to tip off at 8 p.m or 30 minutes after the first game ends.

Friday night's two winners will face off on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the Centennial title and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Tickets for adults (18 and over) and students (13-18) cost $5 and $3, respectively. Children and students with a valid college I.D. are free. There will also be no charge for Haverford College employees with a valid ID. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Fans of the Fords are encouraged to wear black to "blackout" Gooding Arena on Friday night.

Those that are unable to make it to the games at Gooding Arena can follow the action on video and live stats.

Track & field action at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center inside Alumni Field House begins at noon on Saturday. The opening day of the championship meet will run through 6 p.m. and  then pick back up again on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

The busy weekend will culminate with the track & field awards ceremony scheduled to begin a little after 6 p.m. on Sunday.
