2014 Men’s Track & Field Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area
PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College's Christopher Stadler has been voted the performer of the year and is joined by teammate Avi Bregman on the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2014 Academic All-Area Men's Track & Field Team, as announced by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).
The pair of Haverford seniors are two of 10 student-athletes to earn 2014 academic all-area honors. In order to be eligible for academic all-area, an athlete must be in at least his second year at the institution and own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Stadler garners his third selection as a performer of the year as he also took home this honor during the 2012 and 2013 cross country seasons. Additionally, he was named to the academic all-area team for men’s track & field last spring, giving him four academic all-area honors in total.
Stadler graduates from Haverford College as a two-time NCAA Champion. He earned his most recent national title this spring when he captured the 5,000 meter outdoor championship. Stadler was also an NCAA Indoor Champion in the 5,000 meters during the 2012-13 season. In total, Stadler graduates with eight All-America honors. He was a nine-time member of the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and earned the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
Bregman earns academic all-area honors for the second time in his track & field career. The senior was also selected during the fall cross country season for this honor. Bregman graduates as a two-time All-American in the steeplechase. He placed fourth at the NCAA Division III Championships during this past outdoor season in the event. During the regular season, Bregman set the Haverford and Centennial Conference record in the steeplechase with a time of 8 minutes, 51:30 seconds. He was also a three-time Centennial Conference Champion in this event.
Stadler and Bregman are joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team by Matt Kacyon of Temple; Sam Mattis of Penn; Sam McEntee of Villanova; the Rowan duo of Glenn Kohles and Jon Sewnig; and the Widener trio of Chris Garrity, Tyler Schmalhofer and Tyler Williams.
