Fall sports help Fords earn top-25 spot in Directors' Cup

CLEVELAND – Haverford College's fall sports teams have helped the Fords crack the top 25 in the 2013-14 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Division III rankings by earning a combined 149.5 points which ranks 24th among the 128 institutions garnering points in the mid-fall standings.

Final fall standings will be updated on Dec. 24 with the conclusion of the football playoffs.

Men's and women's cross country got the ball rolling for Haverford with top-20 finishes in their respective national championship races. The Haverford men were 10th and the women were 17th.

The most recent addition to the standings come from the completion of the D-III soccer tournaments. The Fords' women's team qualified for the national playoffs for the second straight season and this fall added 25 points to Haverford's fall points total.

Williams (Mass.) College resides at the top of the standings using top-10 finishes in men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball to accumulate 376.0 points.

Haverford is among three Centennial Conference institutions within the top 25. Johns Hopkins University, the national champions in women's cross country, are fifth while Dickinson College sits at No. 15.
