Men's XC tabbed 1st, women 2nd in preseason conference polls

LANCASTER, Pa. – Haverford College's men's and women's cross country teams are expected to be standing on the podium at the end of the season as the Centennial Conference on Wednesday morning released its 2013 preseason coaches polls with the Fords earning the top spot in the men's rankings and the women nabbing the second-place spot.

Challenges for the Haverford men, who accumulated seven first-place votes and 63 points, are expected to come from Dickinson College and Johns Hopkins University which both received a first-place tally while accumulating a matching 54 points. The Fords, Red Devils and Blue Jays are ranked first, second and fourth, respectively, on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association's Division III Mideast Region preseason list.

Haverford brings back a quartet of all-conference runners in 2013 led by returning individual champion Christopher Stadler. Joel Christian and Avi Bregman join Stadler as returning first-teamers while Brian Sokas earned second-team honors last fall.

On the women's side, the Fords, with one first-place vote and 71 points, are chasing Hopkins which received the other nine first-place markers to help the Blue Jays accumulate 81 points. The Dickinson women pulled in 66 points to come in third within the preseason poll.

Regionally, Hopkins sits in the top spot of the USTFCCCA Mideast rankings while Haverford is second followed by Dickinson in third.
