Fitness Center/GIAC Front Desk Monitor

  • Maintain the current nature of the Fitness Center (i.e. clean, organize, fix equipment, etc.)
  • Help users with exercise routines (i.e. answer general exercise questions, help with equipment use, assist with spotting, etc.).  To do so, monitors should actively be involved in their own exercise program and should have solid working knowledge of all the equipment in the Fitness Center.
  • Be the "face" of the GIAC (i.e. answer questions from visitors, direct prospective student-athletes to Athletic Department, etc.)
  • Check out equipment for those using Gooding Arena or Squash Courts
  • Uphold and enforce guest policy
  • Complete projects when assigned by Fitness Center Director

Skills/experience required:

  • Comfortable in the Fitness Center
  • Should exercise themselves and be able to instruct/help Fitness Center users at the basic level with regards to using machines and other equipment
  • Should be a people person, able to interact well and make users feel comfortable using the facility
  • Needs to be, or has been at one point, Adult CPR/1st Aid and AED certified.

Hours per week: Approximately two-four, depending upon availability and need.

Compensation: $10.50/hour.

Event Operations Job Description

  • Assist with the overall game day operation of the following varsity sports; field hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, softball, and baseball.
  • Potential jobs include: scoreboard operator, stat board operator, libero tracker, official scorebook, ball person, lines person, shot clock operator, announcer, etc.
  • Students are not required to work all three athletic seasons (fall/winter/spring). Students may work as many seasons as their schedule dictates.
  • Students are expected to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the event, if there is a class or personal conflict that keeps a student from arriving at that time, they are asked to notify the event supervisor prior to the event.
  • Students should dress accordingly. Sneakers should be worn at all times. NO SANDALS.
  • Any student who fails to report to an event three (3) times, will be removed from the Event Operations staff.
  • Students are expected to notify the Director of Game Day Operations at least 24 hours prior to the event, if they can’t work. It is then the originally-scheduled student’s responsibility to find a replacement.

Hours per week: Flexible, based on the student’s schedule. Academic obligations ALWAYS come first.

Compensation: $10.50/hour.

 Athletics Office Job Description

  • Completing administrative projects
  • Answering the phone and transferring calls
  • Greeting current and prospective students

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have great customer service and be organized. Student must be very dependable, have the ability to follow instructions, and display a sense of professionalism at all times while on duty.

Hours per week: 1.5 - 3 hours per week: There are 3 shifts available, M & W, T & Th, & F;  1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

 Sports Information Statistics Crew

  • Responsible for computer input of play-by-play action of selected home athletic events
  • Print and distribute statistics to selected individuals, usually at half time and post-game
  • Will generally work as part of a team at contest
  • Knowledge and understanding of sport specific rules highly desirable
  • Fast-paced position; attention to detail a must
  • Must learn The Automated Scorebook (TAS)/Stat Crew computer software
  • TAS/Stat Crew software applies to the following sports: (fall) field hockey, soccer, volleyball; (winter) basketball; (spring) baseball, lacrosse, softball

Hours per week: Varies, dependent upon home athletics schedules and numbers needed for statistic crews. Occasional weeknights, most often Sat. afternoons with occasional Sat. night event.

Sports Information Internship

Description: Ideally the appointment will be an academic year internship; however a semester-by-semester option is possible. This internship is a non-paid position, primarily suited for those in undergraduate or graduate programs with hourly requirements of work within the sports information or sports management field.

Responsibilities: The position reports directly to the Sports Information Director and will assist the sports information office with day-to-day coverage of Haverford College’s 23 varsity sports. Primary duties are expected to include: maintaining statistics and records for several sports; preparation of game programs; assisting with game-day operations; preparation and distribution of press releases; writing news releases and event recaps.

Qualifications: Preferred experience includes background in sports journalism and media relations. Rules knowledge of sports essential.  Candidates’ schedules should include ability to work home events which are regularly scheduled for afternoons, evenings and weekends.

Sports Information New Media Internship

Description: Ideally the appointment will be an academic year internship; however a semester-by-semester option is possible. This internship is a non-paid position, primarily suited for those in undergraduate or graduate programs with hourly requirements of work within the sports information or sports management field.
