Thomas Glasser '82 Hall of Achievement

The purpose of the Thomas Glasser '82 Hall of Achievement is to recognize former athletes, teams, coaches and/or administrators who have made significant contributions to the success of Haverford College athletics. Through their outstanding achievements, these individuals helped to define excellence for and bring distinction to Haverford College and its athletic program. The Hall of Achievement was created in memory of Thomas Glasser '82 in recognition of his generosity and love for Haverford College.

Glasser

It is fitting that the college's Hall of Achievement is dedicated in Tom Glasser's memory, as he embodied the qualities necessary for inclusion in this select company. Haverford's Varsity Cup winner as the outstanding athlete in the Class of 1982 and a gold medal winner in the 4x400-meter relay at the 1981 Maccabiah Games in Israel, Glasser was "a great competitor, with a great positive attitude," according to his coach, Tom Donnelly. "He was the best all-around track and field athlete in my years here: sprinting, jumping, middle distances... he even ran cross country."

Glasser won the Ernest F. Walton 1890 Cup as the top male track athlete in both his junior and senior seasons, and was the team's captain as a senior. He competed on several recordsetting relays, and set many individual records, including an indoor 600-yard time (1:12.8) that still stands a quarter-century later. He held college indoor imperial-distance records in the 300, 440 and 880 runs and the high jump (6' 4 1/4"), and outdoors, he once held the 400-meter dash (48.1) and high jump (6' 7 1/2") marks. His 1:51.1 best in the 800 meters rates among the top all-time performances in Haverford history.

Eligibility Criteria:

A former Haverford College athlete will be considered eligible for nomination to the Thomas Glasser '82 Hall of Achievement if at the time of the nomination they meet the following criteria:

  1. Graduated at least 10 years prior to the current year (i.e. 2024 nominees must have graduated in May 2013 or earlier)
  2. Demonstrated exceptional achievement/success in a varsity sport. All-American status and performance at the national level and recognition by regional and/or national associations are important criteria.
  3. Graduated or left Haverford in good standing.

An outstanding team may also be inducted on occasion. An extraordinary record or accomplishment such as an NCAA Championship or finalist, Conference Championship or undefeated season would make a team eligible.

A former Haverford coach/administrator may also be inducted. Must have been an employee in good standing during their tenure; coaching achievements must be of an outstanding nature, eligible immediately after their last year of coaching.

The record of the individual and occasional team must be so outstanding that there are no questions of qualifying for The Hall of Achievement.

Inductees are expected to commit to attending the ceremony; unless circumstances arise that are beyond their control.

***In the selection process it will be noted that due to the significant changes in collegiate athletics over the years, performance in different decades should not be compared.***
