Prospective Haverford College Student-Athletes

Haverford College looks to attract the best and brightest student-athletes throughout the U.S. and beyond. Admission to the College is highly selective. Haverford admits about 20% of all applicants. Of the most recent first-year class, 94% rank in the top 10% of their high school class; the 25th-75th percentile range for test scores are as follows: SAT 670-750 Reading and 690-770 Math. The ACT Composite range is 32-35.

The College is committed to promoting an environment that supports both academic and athletic excellence. About 33% of the college’s students play a varsity sport, and Haverford's days and weeks are structured to make it possible for student-athletes to attend practices and games with few conflicts. No classes are scheduled between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. or on Saturdays.

Haverford's long tradition of successful student-athletes assures us that most students can play sports, even several of them, participate in extra-curricular activities, and still excel in the college’s demanding academic programs.

As such, Haverford is particularly interested in a diverse group of student-athletes who want a rigorous, small liberal arts college academic experience; the myriad of academic resources and social opportunities that the campus community and Philadelphia area have to offer; and the opportunity to contribute to athletics programs that compete at the highest level in NCAA D-III.

Secondary School Curriculum

To show significant evidence of your academic achievement and preparation, it's important to take the most challenging classes (i.e. Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate) at your secondary school. In addition, some Haverford departments will allow you to forego introductory-level courses in areas in which you've already completed rigorous work, and you also may receive college credit.

Campus Visits

A campus visit is a great opportunity to have an interview, take a tour of Haverford, have lunch in the student dining center, see a class in action, and meet some of the students with whom you might be spending the next four years. Many Haverford College head coaches will help you arrange a campus visit, or you can set up a visit through the Office of Admission by calling 610-896-1350. For more information about campus visits and visitor policies, please check out the additional resources available on the College's website.

If arranging a visit through one of the coaches, you may need to submit one or both of the following waivers:

Transportation Waiver

Overnight Waiver

Haverford also offers a variety of virtual engagements, including virtual campus tours, virtual Q & A sessions, and virtual admission interviews. For more information about these virtual offerings, please visit the Office of Admission Website.

Interviews

We recommend that all applicants schedule an interview prior to applying. Interviews are evaluative - they help us in our aim of getting to know you as a whole person. Of course, Haverford interviews are also informational. We will always allow time for you to ask questions as well and hope that this exchange helps you to get to know Haverford better.

Interviews are generally available beginning in the spring of your junior year through early January of your senior year. See "Visiting: Interviews" to learn more about Interviewing at Haverford or a city near you. You can schedule a virtual admission interview online.
