Nicky Miranda '14

Fitness Center Director, Strength & Conditioning Coach

Nicky Miranda ’14 was named Haverford College’s Fitness Center Director/Head Strength & Conditioning Coach in July of 2019. Miranda returned to Haverford in his current position after spending two years at Fairleigh Dickinson University, rising to head strength & conditioning coach during that time.

In addition to his responsibilities with Haverford College’s 23 varsity athletic teams, Miranda works specifically with Office of Academic Resources on the Healthy Mind, Healthy Body program which educates the entire Haverford College community regarding mental, physical, and general health. Miranda will also oversee the Joe Schwartz ’83 3K Run/Walk while additionally teaching courses within the physical education curriculum.

I am excited to grow upon the standard of excellence that Cory Walts, Nat Ballenberg, and Jackie Cox have already established in the strength & conditioning department. I look forward to continuing to make the Fitness Center a hub for all members of the Haverford community passionate about their health and wellness,” said Miranda at the time of his hiring.

Starting as the assistant strength & conditioning coach at Fairleigh Dickinson prior to the 2017-18 academic year, Miranda was promoted to head strength & conditioning coach just one year later. In that role, Miranda led the strength & conditioning programs for all 19 of FDU’s 19 Division I programs. On top of those responsibilities, he also spent time teaching classes in the physical education department. Overseeing a staff of two graduate assistants, Miranda worked collaboratively with the University’s sports medicine staff to aid in injury prevention and student-athlete rehabilitation.

Miranda is a certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). He also holds certifications in Track & Field Strength & Conditioning and MyTPI through Titleist Performance (Level I). Miranda previously interned with Villanova University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the National Football League’s (NFL) New York Jets.

Miranda’s time at Haverford dates back to his undergraduate days as a team captain of the Fords’ baseball team as he helped lead that program to its first two Centennial Conference Championships before graduating in 2014 with his bachelor’s degree in East Asian studies.

Miranda stayed involved with the baseball team as an assistant coach through the 2017 season, helping the Fords to also capture the 2016 conference crown. He went on to receive his master’s degree in exercise science and health promotion: performance enhancement from California University of Pennsylvania in the spring of 2018.

 

Justyce Pollitt

Assistant Fitness Center Director, Strength & Conditioning Coach

The Haverford College Department of Athletics announced the hiring of Justyce Pollitt as Assistant Fitness Center Director/Strength and Conditioning Coach in September of 2021. In addition to his certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS), Pollitt is an Olympic Strength Coach in Javelin and brings a wealth of experience from the health and fitness industry.

"I'm thrilled to join the Fords in the journey for greatness. I hope to not only teach, but learn from my new family throughout my journey here at Haverford. Ready and willing to get started!", stated Pollitt. 

In addition to the responsibilities in strength and conditioning, Haverford's fitness center staff additionally oversees the Joe Schwartz '83 3K Run/Walk while also teaching courses within the physical education curriculum.

Pollitt joins Haverford from his alma mater, Rowan University, where he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years. He was the lead strength & conditioning program coordinator for the men's and women's track & field teams, as well as the men's and women's swimming programs and the women's lacrosse program. In this capacity, Pollitt was responsible for designing and implementing a variety of assessments to evaluate performance while maintaining the weight room and equipment on a daily basis. 

In addition to his role working closely with student-athletes at Rowan, Pollitt worked as a fitness instructor for JBForce Fitness in Burlington County, N.J., implementing custom workout plans via virtual and in-person sessions. He previously served as a personal trainer at The Edge Fitness Clubs in Delran, N.J. for over two years, guiding clients through individualized training plans while also facilitating group training sessions and assessing nutritional guidelines and needs. 

A native of South Jersey, Pollitt graduated from Rowan in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Exercise Science and a concentration in Health Promotion and Wellness Management. A USTFCCCA All-Academic track & field athlete for the Profs, Pollitt was a team captain and earned All-America honors in the long jump during the 2014-15 indoor campaign.

 

Jackie Cox

Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach, Field Hockey Head Coach

Jackie Cox, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, was named assistant strength and conditioning coach in the summer of 2010. Prior to Haverford, Cox worked at Saint Joseph's University, her alma mater, developing and implementing the strength and conditioning program for the field hockey team for five years. She also worked with the men's and women's basketball teams in 2006. A National Strength and Conditioning Association member, Cox worked as a performance coach at the Summit Sports Training Center from 2005 until 2008.
