Preseason Centennial poll sees Fords landing 2nd

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Centennial Conference on Thursday afternoon released its preseason coaches poll for the 2014 baseball season with Haverford College settling into the No. 2 spot after claiming four of 10 first-place votes.

A perennial conference contender, the Fords garnered 74 points in the poll falling just four points shy of preseason pick Johns Hopkins University which pulled down the other six first-place votes from the league's 10 coaches. Gettysburg College is third with 65 points followed by Franklin & Marshall College in fourth with 56 points.

Haverford, 27-11 last spring, returns Centennial pitcher ofthe year and first-team performer Tommy Bergjans who combines with teammate and third-baseman Casey Fox to make up two-thirds of the three first-team players returning to the diamond within the Centennial in 2014.

The regular season is scheduled to open March 1 for the Fords with a visit from Rutgers-Newark for a twinbill that starts at noon on Kannerstein Field.
