FORT MYERS, Fla. – First-inning runs from Nick Miranda and William Bannard pushed Haverford College ahead of North Park University in non-conference baseball action Thursday afternoon, but the advantage wouldn't last as the Vikings used a 13-hit attack to top the Fords, 18-3, at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

Haverford (3-3) broke in front of North Park behind consecutive RBI-ground outs from Ben Verducci and Casey Fox in the top of the first. Miranda scored the opening run after reaching on a single and Bannard originally reached base after being hit by a pitch.

The Vikings (4-5) cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame, getting an unearned run off Haverford starting pitcher John Miraglia but Bannard scored an unearned run in the top of the third to extend Haverford's lead back to two, at 3-1 heading into the bottom of the inning.

North Park scored six runs in the frame, chasing Miraglia and picking up a couple more off reliever Max Gerard.

A five-run fourth from the Vikings followed later by a five-run sixth put the game out reach for Haverford which was limited to just three hits on the day.

Along with Miranda's game-opening single, Nick Ott tripled to lead off the Haverford second and Thomas Vollaro added a pinch-hit single in the seventh.

Miraglia (0-1) took the loss surrendering six earned runs plus an unearned run in two innings on the mound. North Park's Alex Silverthorne (2-0) started and earned the win allowing three runs, one unearned, on two hits over six innings of work for the Vikings.

The Fords jump back into action quickly, squaring off against Muskingum College on Thursday in a doubleheader that is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
