Fords fall to Baldwin Wallace in NCAA regional action

MOOSIC, Pa. - The Haverford College baseball team suffered its first loss of the 2014 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional as the eighth-seeded Fords fell 10-2 to fourth-seeded Baldwin Wallace University on Thursday at PNC Field.

After the Yellow Jackets (27-18) moved out to a 3-0 lead in the contest, Haverford (23-19) answered back with two runs in the fifth on four consecutive two-out hits. Junior Marley Randazzo started the hit parade with a single and classmate Mike Tentilucci made sure Randazzo was not on the basepaths for long. Tentilucci came through with an RBI double to left center to score Randazzo for the Fords' first run.

Senior Nick Miranda's RBI single to center field pulled Haverford within one at 3-2 before William Bannard kept the inning alive with a single of his own. Baldwin Wallace managed to escape with no further damage, however, due to a strikeout by Yellow Jackets' starting pitcher Cory Waite (7-2).

Fresh off an upset of top seed Moravian College on the opening day of regional action, the Fords continued to battle but Waite limited the Centennial Conference champions to just two hits over the remainder of the game.

Baldwin Wallace scored seven runs on six hits throughout the final four innings to account for the final score.

Junior Casey Fox (2-4) took the loss despite allowing just four hits in five-plus innings of work.

Miranda and Tentilucci each finished with two hits in the game.

Facing elimination from the regional bracket with another loss, Haverford takes on seventh-seeded Wesleyan (Conn.) University (28-12) on Saturday at 10 a.m.
