MIDLAND, Mich. – Tommy Bergjans '15, an eighth round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2015 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, has hit the ground running in his brief professional career. After just five appearances with the Ogden Raptors, the rookie affiliate of the Dodgers, Bergjans has been promoted to the Great Lake Loons. The Loons are a Class A affiliate of the Dodgers and play in the Midwest League.

In his first five professional appearances with the Ogden Raptors, Bergjans pitched 13.2 innings and allowed just nine hits and four earned runs. He struck out 16 batters and limited opponents to a .180 batting average. After three consecutive scoreless appearances out of the bullpen, Bergjans was called on to start in his final two appearances with the Raptors. During his final start before his promotion, the recent Haverford College graduate allowed just two hits and no earned runs over five innings of work. He recorded the second victory of his professional career in his start after also earning a win in relief during his professional debut.

Bergjans made his Great Lake Loons debut this past Saturday against the Lansing Lugnuts. In that start, the Haverford graduate pitched four innings, scattering five hits and allowing two runs. He struck out five, just one short of his professional best, and did not walk any batters.

At Haverford, the athletic department's Varsity Cup winner was a three-time All-American and Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Year. During his senior season, Bergjans led all of NCAA Division III with 111 strikeouts and 14.84 strikeouts per nine innings.

The third player in program history to be drafted by Major League Baseball, Bergjans graduated as the program's leader in seven different career categories, including wins (27), ERA (1.69), and strikeouts (374). He also owns seven single season records and struck out a program record 18 batters in a single game against Washington College during the 2013 season.
