Baseball's Season Ends Against Kean

MOOSIC, Pa. - The Haverford College baseball team's season came to a conclusion on an otherwise beautiful day at PNC Field Friday as the Fords took an 11-5 loss to Kean University in an elimination game of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament. Haverford fell to an early 5-1 hole and despite chipping away, could not climb its way back.

The Fords had 13 hits in the game and struck out just three times as a team. Every batter in the starting lineup had at least one hit. Ethan Lee-Tyson, Yannick Villanueva, and Ben Furlong each went 2-for-4. Lee-Tyson, the Centennial Conference Tournament MVP, had three RBI in three different at bats.

Haverford scored one run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Sam Partee with the bases loaded. The lead didn't last long though as the team surrendered five runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Fords got one back in the second on a Lee-Tyson RBI single but again were countered by Kean with a run in the bottom of the second.

The Fords struck again in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Lee-Tyson and then again in the sixth, scoring two runs on a Furlong ground rule double to drive in one and and a Lee-Tyson RBI single to get their fifth of the game.

On the mound, John Miraglia drew the start and struck out two batters in four innings. In relief, John Masella and Patrick O'Shea combined for four innings and two earned runs.

The season is over but it will be considered as another success under head coach Dave Beccaria, highlighted by the team being crowned Centennial Conference champions for the third time since 2012.
