ABCA/Rawlings Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - A pair of Haverford College sophomores were named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team as announced this week. Third baseman Spencer Sohmer and starting pitcher Justin Herring receive the accolade after their outstanding seasons in which they helped the Fords reach the NCAA Regional Tournament with their win in the Centennial Conference Championship.

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.

Herring posted the best ERA in the Centennial Conference this season at 1.58. His 67 punchouts ranked him fifth in the conference. He was also third in wins, sporting a perfect 7-0 record in 11 starts. He struck out 10 or more batters three times this season and walked more than three batters just once. He was named CC Pitcher of the Week (Mar. 21) after striking out 10 players in seven innings against St. John Fisher.

Sohmer was a mainstay in the middle of the Fords' lineup this season, posting a .325 batting average and five home runs in 42 games. He was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week (May 2) after batting .500 over four games. He also hit for the cycle (March 11) in a win over Lakeland College. Sohmer finished the season strong, with a 10-game hitting streak.
