Baseball Falls at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Haverford College baseball team (8-7) was defeated by the Rowan University Profs (13-6) on Wednesday afternoon, falling 12-0 in the Garden State.

Haverford received extra base hits from Harrison Burns, who extended his hitting streak to eight games with a sixth-inning double, and Nick Perez, who doubled in the eighth inning. Ethan Lee-Tyson also added a single in the seventh but the Fords were unable to catch up to the pace of the homestanding Profs.

Rowan scored six runs in the first inning and added three in the second frame. Alex Kokos and Steven Hewa led the way with three RBI each for Rowan, who had three players with multi-hit games in the contest.

Andrew Cartier (2-1) struck out seven over six scoreless innings before Bo Gilligan and Zach Listro combined to hold the Fords at bay over the final three frames.

Michael Schwarze (1-1) got the call for Haverford while Anthony Rizzo and Yannick Villanueva followed with five combined innings of relief. Nathan Vucovich took over on the mound for the final two innings, striking out a pair while delivering two scoreless frames.

Haverford will have a quick turnaround, opening up the home portion of the schedule on Thursday against 16th-ranked TCNJ at 3:30 p.m. on Kannerstein Field. The Centennial Conference opener will be Saturday, April 1 as McDaniel comes to Haverford for a doubleheader beginning with a 12:30 p.m. first pitch for game one.
