Lee-Tyson and Furlong Named to All-CC Teams

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford sophomore outfielder Ethan Lee-Tyson was named to first-team All-Centennial conference honors while junior shortstop Ben Furlong picked up second-team designation, the Centennial Conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon. Lee-Tyson becomes Haverford's 26th first-team selection in program history.

Lee-Tyson was consistently amongst the top offensive performers in the Centennial Conference in 2017 while also making a mid-season position shift when injuries necessitated a move to center field from right field.

In conference contests, Lee-Tyson led the Centennial in hits (31), runs (31) and total bases (56). His total of six homers in conference games ranked second in the Centennial while he was third in RBI with 21.  Showing an impressive prowess on the base paths, Lee-Tyson also swiped 10 bases in conference games, good for second in the Centennial.

His .408/.511/.737 slash line included the third-best batting average and second best on-base and slugging percentages in Centennial play.

In the final week of the regular season, Lee-Tyson was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week. He hit at a .476 clip on the week. The Weston, Conn. product had 10 hits in 21 at-bats with 10 runs scored in the five-game stretch. Lee-Tyson had home runs in wins against Swarthmore and Gettysburg and drove in eight runs on the week to go along with two stolen bases. He posted a 1.450 OPS in five games.

Lee-Tyson adds the first-team award to second-team honors a season ago, as well as the 2016 Centennial Conference Tournament MVP award. Lee-Tyson was also named Haverford's All-Sportsmanship team recipient.

Furlong had a standout junior campaign after capturing the conference's Gold Glove award a season ago to go along with honorable mention honors in 2016.

Appearing in all but one of Haverford's contests this season, The Washington, D.C. native clubbed a Centennial-best seven home runs in conference games and knocked in a conference-best 22 RBI in those contests. One of the most feared power hitters in the conference, Furlong posted the top slugging percentage in conference games (.750) and coaxed 11 walks as a middle of the order threat.

Furlong's 10 overall home runs was the second-most in program single-season history and he ranked 18th in all of Division III in the category.

Defensively, Furlong was the conference leader in assists and double plays. The Fords ranked second in the nation in double plays turned per game with 1.24 per contest this season. Furlong often connected with Will Karp at second base to turn two.

Haverford qualified for the Centennial Conference tournament for the 10th straight season in 2017, and reached the 20-win plateau for the seventh time in eight seasons.

The Fords will now await the release of All-Region awards, which are expected to be announced later this month.
