Lee-Tyson, Furlong Named to ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team

ABCA/Rawlings All-Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford sophomore outfielder Ethan Lee-Tyson and junior shortstop Ben Furlong were named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic All-Region team, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced in a release on Tuesday afternoon. Lee-Tyson was awarded first-team designation while Furlong took home third-team honors.

Lee-Tyson adds the plaudit to second-team D3Baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors garnered earlier on Tuesday and First-team All-Centennial honors announced earlier this month.

Lee-Tyson recorded the third most total bases in a single season in Haverford program history with 96 in 2017 and ranked in the top-10 in program single-season history in runs scored, home runs, hits and slugging percentage.

Starting all 37 contests for Haverford, one of two players to do so, Lee-Tyson hit .400 with 58 hits, 32 RBI and eight homers while swiping a team-best 18 bases.

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are immediately eligible and automatically nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on the evening of Thursday, May 25.

Furlong had a standout junior campaign after capturing the conference's Gold Glove award a season ago to go along with honorable mention honors in 2016.

Appearing in all but one of Haverford's contests this season, The Washington, D.C. native clubbed a Centennial-best seven home runs in conference games and knocked in a conference-best 22 RBI in those contests. One of the most feared power hitters in the conference, Furlong posted the top slugging percentage in conference games (.750) and coaxed 11 walks as a middle of the order threat.

Furlong's 10 overall home runs was the second-most in program single-season history and he ranked 18th in all of Division III in the category.

Defensively, Furlong was the conference leader in assists and double plays. The Fords ranked second in the nation in double plays turned per game with 1.24 per contest this season. Furlong often connected with Will Karp at second base to turn two.

Last season, pitcher Justin Herring and infielder Spencer Sohmer were both named to the All-Mid Atlantic second team. Lee-Tyson is Haverford's first selection to the All-Region first team since Tommy Bergjans in 2015 and the first position player elected to the first team since Charlie Carluccio in 2011.
