2018 Baseball Schedule

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team has announced its 2018 schedule, with the Fords looking for an 11th straight appearance in the Centennial Conference Tournament under head coach Dave Beccaria. The Fords qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament for the 10th straight season and the 12th time in 13 seasons in 2017. In addition, Haverford reached the 20-win plateau for the seventh time in eight campaigns a season ago.

The 2018 season begins with a doubleheader on March 3 at Catholic. The games will be played at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy in Washington. The Fords and Cardinals last did battle in 1995, and the matchup will represent the first Catholic home contest in the series since 1987. The Fords then play at Eastern on March 6 before embarking on the annual spring break trip to Fort Myers, Fla. from March 10 to March 16. Opponents and times for the games as part of the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic are still to be determined.

Haverford opens up the home portion of the schedule on March 20 against Gwynedd Mercy before heading out for a four-game road swing that includes contests at Widener (March 21) and Neumann (March 23) before a doubleheader at NYU (March 24). The second of 11 total home contests features the Fords taking on Rowan (March 27) before a road jaunt to Ewing, N.J. for a matchup with TCNJ (March 28).

A home contest against Cabrini finishes the three games in three days for the Fords (March 29) before conference play begins. The matchup against the Cavaliers will be the first for the Fords, as Cabrini competes in just its second season of varsity baseball in 2018.

The Centennial Conference season begins with a trip to McDaniel for a doubleheader (March 31) before a home-and-home against Ursinus on April 3 in Collegeville and April 6 at Kannerstein Field. The Fords head to Franklin & Marshall for a doubleheader (April 7) ahead of a home-and-home with Washington College on April 10 and 13. The Fords host the Shoremen on April 10 before heading to Chestertown on April 13.

The Fords host reigning Centennial Conference champion Johns Hopkins on April 14 before embarking on a home-and-home with Muhlenberg. The contest in Allentown is slated for April 17 while the Fords host Muhlenberg on April 20.

A trip to Dickinson marks the final road doubleheader (April 21) before a Hood Trophy home-and-home series with Swarthmore. Haverford hosts the rival Garnet on April 24 before heading to Swarthmore on April 27. Gettysburg visits Kannerstein Field for the regular season finale, a doubleheader on April 28.

The Centennial Conference tournament will begin on May 3 with the first round game before the semifinals and finals on May 5 and 6, respectively.

Last season, Haverford was aggressive on the base paths all season, swiping three bases per contest, the second best mark in Division III. Displaying power up and down the lineup, the Fords 1.05 home runs per game was seventh in the nation. Defensive prowess up the middle resulted in Haverford averaging 1.24 double plays per game the second most in the nation. Haverford will return both All-Region and All-Centennial talents in Lee-Tyson and Ben Furlong in 2018 as 21 total Fords are slated to return for the 2017-18 season.

In 2017, Ethan Lee-Tyson became Haverford's 26th first-team all-conference selection in program history. The outfielder was Haverford's first selection to the ABCA/Rawlings all-region first team since Tommy Bergjans in 2015 and the first position player elected to the first team since Charlie Carluccio in 2011. Lee-Tyson is the first Haverford position player to garner D3Baseball.com's All-Mid-Atlantic recognition since Alex Hudak and Casey Fox in 2013.
