ALLENTOWN, Pa. - In a game that started on Tuesday before being suspended due to inclement weather, the Haverford College baseball team (16-16, 9-5 CC) was defeated by host Muhlenberg (16-16, 8-6 CC) on Sunday afternoon, 3-1. Andrew Johnson took the ball in the restart after also getting the start in the Tuesday portion of the contest. The first-year hurler was the highlight for the Fords in his second career start, striking out seven in 7.2 innings of work.

Haverford plated the first run of the contest on Tuesday, as Ethan Lee-Tyson reached on an infield single and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Spencer Sohmer then reached on an infield single of his own, scoring Lee-Tyson for the early 1-0 advantage before the weather took a turn for the worse, forcing the two teams to pack it in for the day.

On Sunday, Johnson allowed a run in the fifth inning as a double by Chris Grillo and a walk to Matt Riebesell preceded a two-RBI single by Stephen Koester, giving Muhlenberg a 2-1 lead. The Mules tacked on an unearned run in the sixth following a Haverford error, taking a 3-1 lead into the seventh frame.

The lead would hold as the final score as Paul Poppert (2-1) was a standout for the hosts on Sunday. Poppert got the ball to begin the restart for Muhlenberg and allowed just a pair of walks, striking out six over 5.2 innings of scoreless relief action.

The Fords will return to action Tuesday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m. as the Hood Trophy home-and-home series with rival Swarthmore begins. Haverford will look to catch the Garnet in the conference standings before wrapping up the regular season slate Saturday, April 29 with a home doubleheader against Gettysburg beginning at 12:30 p.m.
