HAVERFORD, Pa. - Ben Furlong launched a two-run homer to left field in the second inning, but the Haverford College baseball team (14-15, 7-4 CC) was defeated by visiting Muhlenberg (13-16, 5-6 CC) on Friday afternoon at Kannerstein Field, 3-2. Timmy Pilrun (3-3) tossed a complete-game five hitter for the Mules, striking out a pair in his nine innings of work.

Muhlenberg added single runs in the first and second innings against Haverford starter Dylan Livingston. Matt Riebesell picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the first and Brenden Weiss doubled home a run in the second. The lead was quickly erased as Owen Plambeck reached base on a fielding error and advanced into scoring position in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Furlong connected on a blast past the fence in left field, his second of the season, plating a pair and tying the score at 2-2.

In the fourth, Weiss singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a balk. With one out, Ryan Cappadona doubled into the left-center field gap, plating Weiss for Muhlenberg's third run of the game and the eventual winning run.The Fords put a runner in scoring position in the fifth inning as Will Karp singled and promptly stole second, but Pilrun worked out of the jam, inducing a line out off the bat of Ethan Lee-Tyson to end the threat.

Livingston matched Pilrun with scoreless frames in the fifth and sixth. Thomas Primosch worked out of two-out trouble in the seventh and got a crucial out in the eighth before Thomas Phillips faced the minimum over his 1.2 innings pitched, keeping the Fords in the ballgame with a solid effort on the mound.

Livingston finished with five strikeouts in his six innings of work, allowing seven hits and walking three. Offensively, Karp had the only two-hit game for either squad, lacing a pair of singles.

The Fords will return to action tomorrow in Carlisle, Pa. for a doubleheader with host Dickinson. Games are slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. before the Fords head to Muhlenberg Sunday to complete the suspended game from Tuesday afternoon. Haverford is currently leading the halted contest, 1-0, in the top of the fourth inning.
