CARLISLE, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team (16-15, 9-4 CC) swept a doubleheader from host Dickinson (7-22, 4-10 CC) on Saturday afternoon in Carlisle. Ryan Giovenco (4-1) picked up the win for the Fords in the first game while Nathan Bass (2-3) got the game two victory as the Fords pulled over .500 overall and grabbed another crucial sweep of a conference opponent.

In game one, Haverford plated its opening runs in the third inning against Billy O'Neil. Jared Turner walked and Ethan Lee-Tyson was hit by a pitch ahead of an RBI double from Spencer Sohmer as Haverford went ahead 2-0. Michael Schwarze added a solo homer in the fourth and the Fords tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning, as Sohmer keyed a rally with an RBI single.

Dickinson rallied for a run against Giovenco in the sixth and added three in the eighth, cutting the Haverford advantage to just 6-4. Undaunted, the Fords added three in the top of the ninth inning, on a bases-loaded error by the Red Devils, reflecting the 9-4 final score.

Sohmer and Schwarze each finished with three hits and three RBI in the first of two.

In the second game, Haverford piled on the early runs, scoring nine times in the first three frames. Owen Plambeck laced an RBI double in the first inning to open the scoring against Connor Langan, giving the Fords an early advantage.

The bats did not stop there as the floodgates opened in the second. Sohmer plated a pair on an RBI single before Ben Furlong did the same later in the inning. Suddenly, the Fords saw their lead balloon to 6-0. The Fords tacked on three more in the third, as Lee-Tyson knocked in a pair with a single before scoring on Spencer Sohmer's base hit for a 9-0 lead.

Dickinson got a run back on a bases-loaded walk in the third and plated another in the bottom of the fourth as Ben Carter tripled. A seventh inning single from Alex Jacobson gave the Red Devils a third run.

Brandon Jenkins got the ball for the final two frames, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out a pair to keep any thoughts of a late Red Devils comeback at bay.

Lee-Tyson had a four-hit performance for Haverford in the nightcap. Plambeck added three hits while Sohmer and Matt Goss each had a pair.

The Fords now face a quick turnaround, completing a suspended game against Muhlenberg Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Allentown, Pa. That game is currently in the fourth inning, with Haverford leading 1-0. Following the completion of the contest, which began on Tuesday, Haverford will next be in action for a home game Tuesday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m. against Swarthmore.
