HAVERFORD, Pa. - In the final home games of the season at Kannerstein Field, the Haverford College baseball team (17-19, 10-8 CC) split with visiting Gettysburg (12-22, 6-12 CC), dropping the first game 6-4 before storming back in the second game for an 11-4 victory. The second game was called in the seventh inning due to impending inclement weather. The Fords displayed an outburst of power in both contests, hitting four home runs on the afternoon, including two from Spencer Sohmer and one each from Matt Goss and Ethan Lee-Tyson

In game one, Gettysburg struck for the first run of the contest in the third inning against Haverford starting pitcher Ryan Giovenco. The Fords responded against Gettysburg hurler Dan Ball, with Sohmer homering during the bottom half of that inning for a 2-1 lead. Goss later put a charge into a Ball pitch for a solo shot that added insurance for Haverford in the fourth.

Haverford made it a 4-1 contest in the sixth inning as Harrison Burns singled to right field, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Sam Partee lifted a fly ball to center field, plenty deep enough to score Burns on a sacrifice fly as Haverford saw its lead grow to 4-1.

In the seventh, Gettysburg rallied to take a 5-4 lead with two out. Kobi Wolf walked and Chuck Probst and Matt Szczesny reached on consecutive singles to plate a run. Joey Giovinco followed those hits up with a home run to right field, handing Gettysburg the lead. Gettysburg added an insurance run in the eighth, getting the cushion it needed to steal a road victory. Myles Burbank was credited with the victory after 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.

For the Fords, Sohmer, Burns, and Partee each had multi-hit contests. Tom Phillips was a standout in relief, tossing a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.

In game two, Haverford's bats came out hot again, erasing an early 2-0 deficit. Owen Plambeck tagged Will Wortmann with a run in the first on an RBI ground out and the Fords added four more in the second, giving starter Nathan Bass (3-3) some breathing room to work with. Lee-Tyson, Sohmer, and Furlong each picked up an RBI in the frame.

After Sohmer led off the fourth inning with a solo homer, the Fords scored on three straight bases loaded walks to go ahead 9-2.

Sean Murphy launched a two-run homer in the fifth for Gettysburg, but Haverford stayed focused on offensive production with Ben Somorjai doubling in the sixth inning ahead of a two-run homer from Lee-Tyson. Lee-Tyson's second round-tripper of the season gave Haverford a commanding 11-4 advantage and represented the final runs of the contest.

The game was called with two out in the bottom of the seventh as a fast-approaching storm descended upon the Haverford campus. After a brief rain delay, the umpires and coaches met at home plate and decided to call the game.

Bass pitched effectively, scattering six hits and three walks over his five innings of work. He tallied an impressive seven strikeouts, matching a career best. The first year was spelled by sophomore Brandon Jenkins, who tossed the final two innings without allowing a run.

Sohmer went 3-for-5 with two RBI in the second game while Lee-Tyson drove in four and scored three runs. Seven different Fords scored a run in the nightcap of the twinbill. With a four RBI day, Sohmer moved up to third in program history with 114 career RBI, passing Tim McLean, Jeff Butera, and Alex Hudak.
