SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Haverford College Baseball team (14-13, 7-4 CC) dropped a midweek contest at No. 23 Swarthmore (17-16, 5-6 CC) on Tuesday afternoon, falling by an 11-2 final at Clothier Baseball Field. First-year Zach Landry had two hits, stole a base, and scored a run in the contest.
The Fords sent senior Luke Duris (2-3) to the mound and Swarthmore countered with Ryan Warm (5-0) as each pitcher twirled a scoreless first inning.
Haverford loaded the bases against Warm in the second inning, as Landry singled to right field ahead of walks to seniors Sam Partee and Jared Turner, but Warm was able to battle back, getting a strikeout to end the frame.
Jared Gillen led off the bottom of the second with a home run, as the jolt helped start a five-run rally for the Garnet. An RBI single from Holden Bridge and a Charles Levitt double down the left field line keyed a five-run, five-hit frame as Swarthmore jumped ahead 5-0.
In the fourth, Plambeck and Turner walked ahead of a two-out RBI single from Perez, but Swarthmore added a pair, with Bridge and Cole Beeker each knocking doubles.
Plambeck again walked in the sixth and stole second. Landry followed with a single and with two down, Landry took off for second base. An error on the throw down by the Swarthmore catcher allowed Plambeck to score, trimming the Garnet advantage to just two at 7-2.
Swarthmore added runs in the sixth and seventh as Jackson Roberts and Levitt each connected on homers, pushing the lead to 11-2 in favor of the hosts. Warm finished with six innings pitched, allowing four hits and one earned run. He walked six and struck out three.
Sophomore Ryan Giovenco had an admirable showing out of the bullpen for the Fords, as he pitched the final 1.2 innings of the contest, allowing just one hit while striking out two.
The Fords return to action tomorrow, heading to Immaculata (14-11, 6-4 Atlantic East) for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference first pitch. Haverford then returns home to wrap up the home-and-home series with the Garnet on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Haverford will head to Franklin & Marshall for a doubleheader with the Diplomats on Saturday.
