IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Haverford College baseball team (14-14) dropped a midweek excursion from Centennial Conference play, falling by a 6-1 final to Immaculata (16-11) on Wednesday afternoon. The Fords mixed in a group of younger players as the majority of the regular starting lineup was given a breather. First-year Grant Schwartz notched three singles to pace the Fords offensively.

First-year Cole Bramhall got the start on the mound for Haverford, pitching the first three innings of the contest, allowing just one hit while striking out one.

Haverford pushed the first run of the contest across in the fifth inning. First-year Ben Browning walked to begin the frame, and Grant Schwartz then drilled a single into left. With two out, sophomore Garrett Melby walked to load the bases. The walk chased Chris Huyette from the game, and new pitcher Ryan Crowell (1-2) walked senior Jared Turner to give the Fords the 1-0 advantage.

Immaculata struck for two runs in the bottom of the frame against senior Austin Castellanos (0-1), as Zach Van Meter walked with the bases loaded and Joey Sacco later delivered an RBI sacrifice fly to center field.  A four-run rally for the Mighty Macs in the eighth gave the hosts a 6-1 lead that would hold as the final score of the contest.

Haverford put two runners on base in the sixth as Browning and Grant Schwartz each singled with two outs, but Timmy Newell worked out of the jam for the Mighty Macs. Grant Schwartz added his third hit of the day with one out in the ninth inning. Junior Lucas Greenbaum worked 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, walking a pair. Sophomore Thomas Primosch made his season debut, tossing a scoreless inning in the seventh.

The Fords now return to action on Thursday, facing No. 23 Swarthmore at Kannerstein Field to wrap up a home-and-home series with the Garnet. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
