HAVERFORD, Pa. – In a crucial midweek conference test against Washington College, the Haverford College baseball team (16-16, 9-6 CC) pounded out 13 runs and 12 hits in a 13-3 victory over the visiting Shoremen (24-12, 6-9 CC). A seven-run second inning helped Haverford pull away before the Fords struck for single runs in the third and fourth, and eventually capped the day with a four-run rally in the fifth.

Haverford sent senior Luke Duris (3-3) to the hill, and Duris set the top of the Washington College lineup down in order in the first. After Duris worked around a pair of base runners in the second, the Fords got to work against Jonah Frankel (3-3) in the bottom of the inning.

Junior Luke Wallis smacked a home run into left field to open the scoring, and the floodgates opened from there. Junior Owen Plambeck singled into center field, and first-year Zach Landry followed with a single of his own. Senior Sam Partee was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and senior Jared Turner then reached on a fielder's choice as two runs came in to score on a throwing error.

Senior Nick Perez laid down a successful sacrifice bunt that plated a run, and junior Will Karp then knocked home a run with a single. After Ethan Lee-Tyson was hit by a pitch, a double-steal forced a bad throw that plated another run. A walk to junior Harrison Burns chased Frankel from the game, and Wallis notched an RBI in his second trip to the plate of the inning, adding yet another run with an successful sacrifice bunt. The Fords quickly found themselves with a 7-0 advantage after two full innings.

After a stress-free inning from Duris in the top of the third, Landry was hit by a pitch to begin the bottom of the frame. Senior Jared Turner then drilled a one-out double to plate an eighth run.

Duris was tagged for a pair of runs on an RBI double from Tommy Buckman in the fourth, but Lee-Tyson opened up the bottom of the inning with a homer to right field. The blast was the 18th of Lee-Tyson's career as the center fielder is now tied for third all-time in program career history in the category. The blast was also the 200th hit of his illustrious career at Haverford. A four-run rally in the fifth was keyed by a leadoff double from Partee and a two-RBI single from Harrison Burns as the Fords stretched the advantage to 13-2.

A throwing error plated one final run for the Shoremen, but Duris finished his six innings of solid work allowing just two hits, while striking out five. Sophomore Andrew Johnson and first-year Eric Kopczynski combined for three-innings of one-hit relief. Connor Morgan was the most effective pitcher for Washington College, striking out two in 2.1 innings of hitless relief.

Burns and Turner each had multi-hit days for Haverford, while Burns joined Wallis and Perez with multiple RBI. Karp stole a pair of bases to lead the Fords on the base paths.

The Fords now face a quick turnaround, hosting Eastern tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. The non-conference contest serves as a prelude to packed weekend of Centennial Conference action as Haverford ramps up the chase for the Centennial Conference playoffs. Haverford will wrap up the home-and-home series with Washington College on Friday in Chestertown (3:30 p.m.) before hosting McDaniel for a pair of games on Saturday at Kannerstein Field. The doubleheader is slated to begin at noon.
