Cricket opens spring slate at Merion CC

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College cricket team began its spring season on Sunday at the Merion Cricket Club.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Fords put up 73 runs against the Merion bowling attack with President Dan Weiss among the onlookers. Senior Andriy Mshanetskyy top-scored with 15 runs.

The Fords battled to defend the total, but eventually succumbed to Merion, losing by five wickets. Of the bowlers, Mshanetskyy and team captain Neilay Shah, also a senior, had the best bowling figures, taking two wickets apiece.

Haverford's campaign continues next weekend, with a match against the Philadelphia Cricket Club at the Merion Cricket Club on Saturday, April 12, and a home match against the British Officers Cricket Club on Sunday.
