Three Fords score 2 goals each in win at Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. – Haverford College's Catherine Aronowitz, Bryn Bissey and Jen DiMaria each scored twice in the 12th-ranked Fords' 7-1 victory at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Stockton Turf Field.

A slim 1-0 halftime lead for Haverford (6-1) came courtesy of Bissey's fourth goal of the year. The Osprey's (1-6) out shot the Fords by a 15-9 margin over the opening 35 minutes but goalkeeper Sydney Hyder stopped all eight of the Stockton shots making it on frame to hold off the the home team and allow Haverford to take its narrow lead into the intermission.

The second half was all Haverford as it limited the Osprey's to five shots and one goal while the Fords collected 20 shots -- 17 on goal -- and six goals in the eventual rout.

DiMaria (pictured, right) opened the second-half scoring just 70 seconds in with her second of the year, this one coming off a well-played corner insertion from Bridget Gibbons and stopper Mary Hobbs. Bissey added her second of the game not quite 10 minutes later and, after Stockton netted its lone goal, Aronowitz scored consecutive goals to push Haverford's lead to 5-1.

DiMaria and Megan Holt closed out the game's scoring with goals in the final 10 minutes of action. Hobbs finished with three assists in the game while five teammates each had one assist.

Along with their advantage in second-half shots, the Fords also registered four penalty corners while disallowing the Osprey's a single corner opportunity.

Hyder (5-1) finished with nine saves to earn the win while Stockton's Sara Winters (1-6) took the loss surrendering five goals while making 12 saves. Liz Stankiewicz relieved Winters for the final 10:56 and gave up the final two goals while picking up three saves.

Each team's netminder benefited from stellar back line play as Sarah Waldis notched a defensive save for Haverford and Cassie Kirk snapped up two for Stockton.

Saturday's victory brings the Fords back into the win column after dropping a heart-breaking 2-1 decision Thursday evening to 4th-ranked and visiting Messiah College. Prior to the Messiah outing Haverford had won its opening five games of the 2012 season.

Next up for the Fords is the third of a three-game non-conference stretch as Misericordia University visits Swan Field on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
