Fords unable to come away with upset of #8 F&M

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College's 11th-ranked field hockey team had a solid day defensively but was unable to come up with a score in the offensive end of Saturday afternoon's 2-0 Centennial Conference loss to visiting and eighth-ranked Franklin & Marshall College on the turf at Swan Field.

Haverford (8-3, 3-2 Centennial) trailed the Dips (10-1, 6-0) by just one goal at the half but Kristen Zublin's score late in the game was able to ice the win for F&M.

The Fords played a valiant second half, generating a 10-3 advantage in penalty corner chances and a 5-4 edge in shots, but couldn't find the equalizer when trailing by one giving the second F&M goal, with less than six minutes to play in the second half, even greater value.

Christie Quake registered a team-high two shots on goal in the loss, with teammate Megan Holt picking up the other. All three shots were stopped by Diplomat goalie Avery Koep who improved her record to 8-1 with the victory.

Sydney Hyder (7-3) came up with five saves between the pipes for Haverford including a pair of saves during the taut second-half of play.

Next up for the Fords is their final non-conference outing of the season as the team travels up the Main Line to do battle with Eastern University on Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.
