Fords notch first win of season

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Bryn Bissey and Megan Reilly scored goals and Haverford College's defense limited visiting Lebanon Valley College to six shots in the Fords' 2-1 non-conference field hockey victory Wednesday afternoon at Swan Field.

Haverford (1-1) nabbed the early lead on Bissy's marker in the game's seventh minute and owned that one-goal advantage past halftime until the Dutchmen (0-3) evened things up on a score from Lauren Brumbach 12 minutes into second-half action.

The tie score didn't last long as Reilly nabbed a crossing pass from Catherine Aronowitz and banged home the eventual game winner only one minute later.

The Fords out shot Lebanon Valley by a 19-6 count, including 12-3 in the first half, and owned a 13-5 edge in penalty corner chances.

The Dutchmen nearly tied the score late in the first half as they were able to swing possession off a corner insertion to the back side of the goal behind Haverford netminder Lindsey Lopes, but Brenna Boehman stepped in front of Brumbach's shot and knocked the ball away with her stick at the goal line to register a defensive save and preserve the Fords' narrow lead.

Lopes earned the win for Haverford while Lebanon Valley's Chloe Baro was tagged with the loss after coming up with four saves against the two goals she allowed.

Haverford gets a week before stepping onto the turf for its next game, a non-conference outing against visiting Wesley College on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
