1st-half goals hold up in win over Stockton

HAVERFORD, Pa. - First-half goals from Catherine Aronowitz, Jen DiMaria and Megan Holt helped push the Haverford College field hockey team past visiting Stockton College by a score of 4-2 in Saturday afternoon's non-conference battle at Swan Field.

The Fords (3-3) led 3-1 at the half before Stockton (4-3) trimmed the lead with a goal in the 60th minute. Aronowitz's second marker in the game, though, came three minutes later to squelch any come-back bid by the Ospreys.

Haverford got off to a quick start with Aronowitz's first of the game, pounding home her own rebound at the 4:12 mark to hand her team the early advantage.

An Aronowitz feed to DiMaria in the 10th minute allowed the Fords to double the lead but Stockton fought back to halve the deficit on a penalty stroke goal from Susie Balidemaj not even two minutes later.

Just before the half Holt centered herself in front of the goal where she was able to receive a pass from Brenna Boehman who was near the end line to the right of the goal. Holt banged home her second of the season with 25 seconds left in the opening stanza.

Brittany Iveson scored for Stockton at 59:05 to allow the Osprey's to creep within a goal but Aronowitz's answer shortly after closed out the win for Haverford.

Netminder Lindsey Lopes earned the win for Haverford coming up with six saves, five of which were in the opening half of action. Stockton's Liz Stankiewicz came up with seven saves in the loss.

Haverford continues in non-conference action with its next game, a road game at Misericordia University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
