Bissey honored with selection to academic all-area team

PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College's Bryn Bissey has been voted onto the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2013 Academic All-Area Field Hockey Team, as released Monday by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

In order to be eligible for academic all-area, an athlete must be in at least her second year at the institution and own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Monday's academic all-area announcement adds to a stellar postseason for the Haverford forward. Bissey was tabbed a second-team National Field Hockey Coaches Association all-South region performer on November 18 which followed a Centennial Conference release one week earlier naming Bissey a first-team all-conference player.

Bissey tied her single-season mark for goals during the 2013 season, finding the back of the cage 10 times which was second-most on a Haverford squad that played its way into the semifinals of the Centennial playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.

Her pair of game-winning goals in 2013 upped Bissey's career total to eight which ranks second all-time in program history. The first of her game-winners this fall came in late September when Bissey scored the go-ahead goal, and then an insurance marker, in a 3-1 win over Misericordia University. Three days later on Sept. 28 she scored the game's first two goals in Haverford's 3-1 road victory at league foe Gettysburg College.

In addition to her all-time mark on the game-winners list, Bissey closed her career fifth in the program in goals (33) and points (74). She is also a two-time member of the Centennial's academic honor roll.
