HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team defeated the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets 4-2 on Saturday at Swan Field to score its second win of the season.

The Fords got the scoring started in the ninth minute when freshman Elena Veale scored her second goal of the season on an assist from Allison Martin off a penalty corner. The goal led to an immediate timeout from the Yellow Jackets who made a goalie switch.

Head coach Jackie Cox's squad continued its offense attack with the next seven shots of the game. One of those shots ended in the back of the net off the stick of senior Jen DiMaria in the 12th minute for her fourth goal of the season.

After a flurry of shots, the Yellow Jackets thought they scored their first goal in the 20th minute, but sophomore Natalie Leslie came up with a defensive save.

In the second half, Randolph-Macon tallied its first goal in the 39th minute on a goal by Catherine Pricone. As the Yellow Jackets continued to push the pace offensively, Katiee Nicholas tied the game in the 46th minute.

Haverford responded as freshman Paige Carson tallied her first collegiate goal on an assist from senior Catherine Aronowitz 33 seconds later. Veale gave the Fords some more breathing room as she scored her second of the game with five minutes to go. It's Veale first career multi-goal game.

Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Lopes picked up eight saves for her second win of the season. Kelsey Stanley made five saves in relief for the Yellow Jackets in the loss.

Haverford improves to 2-2 on the season while Randolph-Macon fell to 0-4 on the year. The Fords have their first night game of the season as they host Messiah on Wednesday night at Swan Field beginning at 7 p.m.
