HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 6 Franklin and Marshall Diplomats earned a 1-0 victory over the Haverford College field hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Swan Field.

The Diplomats scored their goal in the 10th minute off a penalty stroke from Maria Guarisco.

Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Lopes kept the Diplomats' lead at one when she made a diving save on Sarah Powell in the 29th minute.  Lopes finished with 11 saves in the game, two shy of her career high. It marks the third time this season that the junior has made at least 10 saves in a game and fourth time in her career.

The Fords had some offensive firepower in the last 20 minutes of game action. In the 54th minute, senior Catherine Aronowitz went streaking down the left side, beating the defender, but her shot was deflected wide. Off a penalty corner a few minutes later, freshman Elena Veale's clear shot at F&M goalie Allie Morey was blocked and a follow up chance by junior Brenna Boehman was also blocked.

The defensive unit for the Fords stood tall by blocking five shots in front of Lopes. F&M had 22 shots and 17 penalty corners in the game.

Head coach Jackie Cox's team fell to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in the Centennial Conference while F&M improved its record to 11-1 and 5-1 in the conference.  The Fords return to action at Johns Hopkins next Friday beginning at 7 p.m.
