HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team (7-8, 3-5 CC) defeated the McDaniel Green Terror (9-6, 5-3 CC) 2-1 at Swan Field on Saturday afternoon.
Before the game, the team honored its four seniors, Jacque Fagan, Jen DiMaria, Catherine Aronowitz and Brooke Kelly with a pregame ceremony. The seniors have been a part of three Centennial Conference playoff berths, including a conference final during their time at Haverford.
The Fords led the way offensively in the first half, outshooting the Green Terror 12-2. They also had more penalty corners (6-1) in the first stanza and spent a majority of the half in the offensive zone.
Freshman Stephanie Terrell scored the first goal of her career in the 21st minute. Aronowitz took the penalty corner and found junior Brenna Boehman, who set up Terrell.
Right before halftime, Boehman added an insurance goal with her third of the season. It's the junior's second multi-point game of the season and fourth of her career.
Haverford's offensive firepower continued in the beginning of the second half. McDaniel goaltender Caila White had to make two saves in the first 12 minutes while two more shots were sent wide of the goaltender. The Fords also had five penalty corners during that time span.
The Green Terror finally got some momentum in the 48th minute. Sarah Bach's shot was blocked and then junior goaltender Lindsey Lopes kept them off the board with a save. Over the final 20 minutes of the second half, McDaniel had six shots, but Haverford's defense blocked four of them. Gabrielle Yore got the Green Terror on the board in the 64th minute, but the visitors did not register another shot in the game.
Head coach Jackie Cox's squad finished with 10 shots on goal in the game compared to just four for McDaniel. It also finished with 15 penalty corners while the Green Terror had six. Junior Allison Martin led the home team with three shots while junior Sarah Waldis tallied an assist in the game. Lopes made three saves to score her seventh win of the season.
Fans will get one more chance to see the Fords at home as they host Washington College on Wednesday at Swan Field beginning at 7 p.m.
