HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team (7-9, 3-6 CC) lost its third 1-0 decision of the season, falling to the Washington College Shorewomen (12-4, 5-4 CC) on Wednesday night at Swan Field.

Despite both teams being held off the scoreboard in the first half, the Fords and Shorewomen had several opportunities to register the first goal.

In the fifth minute, freshman Stephanie Terrell's shot was blocked and senior Jen DiMaria's follow up attempt hit the post.

Washington College's Alli Dudley had her first shot blocked by the Haverford defense, but junior goalkeeper Lindsey Lopes had to make a save on a rebound opportunity to keep the visitors at bay.

The Fords' best scoring opportunities in the first stanza came between the 15th and 17th minutes. Senior Catherine Aronowitz found DiMaria off a penalty corner, but DiMaria's shot was sent just wide. About 30 seconds later, Washington College's goalkeeper Sadie Robertson saved a shot from junior Brenna Boehman just inside the box. After another Fords' shot was blocked, senior Brooke Kelly's attempt was denied by Robertson.

Dudley broke through for the Shorewomen in the 43rd minute when she poked a shot by Lopez in a battle in front of the net.

After the Shorewomen were given a yellow card, head coach Jackie Cox's squad had three straight shots in the 49th minute, but Robertson recorded two saves and another shot was blocked.

In the 63rd minute, Washington College looked to have scored an insurance goal, but Kelly made a defensive save that kept the conference rival's lead at one.

Robertson finished with four saves in the second half and seven saves in the shutout victory. Boehman led the Fords with four shots while Aronowitz had three tries at the net. Lopes made four saves in the loss.

Haverford will travel to Swarthmore in the final game of the 2014 regular season on Saturday. The game is scheduled for noon.
