Season Recap: New Leaders Are Cultivated Through Underclassmen

Signature Wins: Freshman Elena Veale scored the game-winning goal in overtime on a penalty stroke to give the Haverford College field hockey team a 3-2 victory over the Eastern University Eagles on Sept. 3 at Swan Field. Veale continued her stellar freshman campaign by scoring two goals vs. Randolph Macon (Sept. 13). Head coach Jackie Cox's squad was on the comeback trail as it scored three goals in a ten minute span of the second half, defeating Misericordia 4-3 on Sept. 24. Senior Catherine Aronowitz and junior Brenna Boehman each scored two goals in the victory. It's the first time that the team had two players score at least two goals in a game since Oct. 26, 2013 when Bryn Bissey '14 and Megan Holt '14 did so vs. Swarthmore. The Fords also took down the McDaniel Green Terror 2-1 on Oct. 25 on Senior Day with goals from freshman Stephanie Terrell and junior Brenna Boehman.

Season Notes:  The senior class (Jacque Fagan, Catherine Aronowitz, Jen DiMaria and Brooke Kelly) combined for seven goals and two assists in the final game of their careers led by DiMaria's school-record five goals and 11 points at Swarthmore (Nov. 1) … The senior class went to three Centennial Conference tournaments and one conference final … Aronowitz tied the school-record that was later broken by DiMaria with four goals vs. Bryn Mawr (Oct. 22) … DiMaria graduates sixth in program history in goals (29) and eighth in points (68) … Aronowitz ends her career tied for 11th all-time in points (63) and games played (72) … The freshman class contributed 11 goals and four assists this year … Martin set a career high with four defensive saves which was tied for third in the conference ... Lopes made at least seven saves in the first six games of the season (Aug. 30-Sept. 20) including a career-high 13 saves at Lebanon Valley (Sept. 6) ... The junior goalkeeper set career highs in shutouts (two), saves (99) and save percentage (.756) ... The Fords lost four games this season by one goal.

Looking ahead:

Rising sophomore Paige Carson is the top returning scorer with five goals and three assists during the 2014 campaign. Rising senior Brenna Boehman will be looked upon to provide leadership with four goals and two assists last year.
