HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game en route to a 5-1 victory over the Dickinson Red Devils on Saturday afternoon at Swan Field.

Senior captain Sarah Waldis continued her spectacular season with her fifth goal of the year in the fourth minute on an assist from sophomore Paige Carson. Waldis, who assisted on sophomore Elena Veale's goal in the 10th minute, now has 14 points this season with five goals and four assists. Her previous career high in points was three in 2012 and 2014.

With the Fords in front 2-0, freshman Paige Powell tallied a goal after the Dickinson goalie, Freddie Bancroft, came out of the cage, looking to pick up the rebound. It was Powell's third of the year.

Merritt Davis got the Red Devils on the board off a penalty corner. Caroline Karwell took the corner, then passed it to Amber Dey, who quickly found Davis.

The Fords pushed the offensive pace in the first 35 minutes of game action, outshooting the Red Devils 10-5. Haverford forced Bancroft to make six saves in the first stanza.

In the 43rd minute, senior captain Brenna Boehman deflected in a hard shot for her third tally of the season. Boehman is one shy of tying her career best mark set last year. Freshman Mason McNulty scooped up a rebound off of Bancroft and deposited it in the back of the cage eight minutes later for her first career goal to wrap up the scoring.

Dickinson took 10 shots in the second half, but Haverford's defense kept its conference rival scoreless in the last 35 minutes. Senior Lindsey Lopes made five of her season-best seven saves in the second stanza.

Five different Fords scored in the contest while head coach Jackie Cox's squad improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Dickinson dropped its first contest of the season and is now 4-1 and 0-1 in Centennial Conference action.

Today was Haverford's first win over Dickinson since 2012 and just the sixth in 23 attempts all-time. The field hockey team has won four straight contests at Swan Field, but will now head out on the road for four consecutive games. The Fords will travel to Misericordia on Wednesday with game time scheduled for 7 p.m.
