ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team recorded its fifth win in a row as it defeated the Muhlenberg College Mules, 1-0 at Scotty Wood Stadium on Wednesday evening. The team's five straight wins are the most since the 2012 season.

Sophomore Elena Veale scored the only goal of the contest in the 52nd minute off an assist from senior captain Sarah Waldis. Veale has scored in three consecutive games for the first time in her career. She has four goals during that span and now has a career-high six goals in 2015. Waldis' banner season continued as she has points in the Fords' last six games and 17 points overall, good for sixth in the conference. Senior goalkeeper Lindsey Lopes was on top of her game as she made 10 saves in the win.

Muhlenberg controlled the pace of play in the first seven minutes of the contest by recording three penalty corners and two shots. In the 24th minute, senior Allison Martin recorded her 10th career defensive save. The Mules continued to pepper Lopes with shots as they took 13 in the first half which required the goalkeeper to make eight saves. The home team also had a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Seventeen minutes into the second half, Waldis, at the top of the circle, found an open Veale near the goalie who then deposited the ball in the back of the cage. Over the final six minutes of the game, the Mules had three penalty corners and two shots, but couldn't find the equalizer. Lopes made three saves in the final 35 minutes to record her 25th career win. She is four victories shy of tying the program record set by Maggie Cronin '11 (29 wins).

The Fords have won seven of their last nine contests vs. the Mules. Haverford improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference while Muhlenberg dropped to 4-3 this season and 3-1 in the conference play. Head coach Jackie Cox's squad travels to Gettysburg on Saturday (1 p.m.), looking for its seventh win in a row over the Bullets.
