IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team blasted past Immaculata by a final tally of 5-0 on Wednesday evening, as Mason McNulty and Paige Carson each tallied a pair of goals and Rachel Gordon added two assists. Haverford dominated every facet of the contest, outshooting the Mighty Macs by a final tally of 23-2.
The Fords improve to 3-2 on the season while Immaculata falls to 3-2.The Fords started the contest with a flurry of shots as the visitors kept offensive pressure on goalkeeper Sarah Pasternak early. Pasternak made three saves in the first six minutes of action before a bevy of shots sailed wide. Haverford broke through for its first goal of the contest with its seventh shot of the night in the ninth minute of play. Mason McNulty took a feed from Gordon and chipped one past the goalkeeper for an early 1-0 advantage.
The Mighty Macs mustered their second shot of the contest in the 20th minute as Danielle Rettemade her lone save of the night in a shutout effort. Paige Carson then tallied the next three shots, with the third strike being the charm as the put back goal, her fifth of the season, gave Haverford a 2-0 lead just 22 minutes into the night.
Haverford was not done with its first half outburst as McNulty tallied her third goal of the season and second of the night with an assist from Carson in the 34th minute. At the halftime break, Haverford help an 18-2 edge in shots and had out-cornered the hosts 3-0.
Picking up right where they left off, Gordon teamed up with Carson in the 37th minute of play, with the first shot of second half play finding the back of the cage on a chip shot. Elena Veale scored her first of the year just moments later in the 41st minute.
For Haverford, eight different players registered a shot including six each for Carson and McNulty and five for Veale. Gordon picked up the first two assists of her collegiate career while McNulty tied a career-best with two goals. Carson added to her Centennial Conference lead in goals with her fifth and sixth of the campaign. Haverford finished with an 8-0 edge in corners. Sarah Pasternack made 13 saves in a valiant 70 minute effort for the Mighty Macs while Cayla Williams and Haley O'Donnell both added defensive saves.
Haverford now turns its focus toward the Centennial Conference as the Fords travel to Carlisle, Pa. for a matchup with Dickinson on Saturday. Pass back is slated for 11:00 a.m.
