Leslie Named To NFHCA All-South Region Team

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The annual NFHCA All-Region teams were announced today, with Haverford's Natalie Leslie earning All-South region second team honors after her fourth campaign as a member of the Fords. Leslie adds the plaudit to her First-Team All-Centennial Conference honor earned earlier this month. The senior's addition to the team represents Haverford's 13th overall NFHCA All-South Region selection. Last season, seniors Sarah Waldis (first team) and Allison Martin (second team) were recognized by the coaches' organization.

Leslie was a back line stalwart for the Fords in 2016 with 12 defensive saves, a mark that was good for fourth in all of NCAA Division III. Leslie leaves Haverford's program in seventh place in career defensive saves and 10th in total minutes played. This season, the Norwalk, Conn. product scored the game winning goal for the Fords against Cabrini in the season opener on Sep. 1.  The strike gave Haverford a 2-1 lead that would hold for good, setting the tone for another double-digit win season.

Leslie was named PhilaFieldHockey.com Defender of the Week on September 14 after making three defensive saves against Eastern in a home contest on September 7 at Swan Field. The Fords prevailed in a 4-2 victory. Leslie also scored an insurance goal off a penalty corner in the 67th minute of the contest against the Eagles. Leslie set a new career high in shots with seven against Misericordia on Sep. 21. 

There were 100 student-athletes on the first team and 97 on the second team across the six regions, which included the Great Lakes, New England East, New England West, North Atlantic, South Atlantic and South. Broken down by class, the All-Region squads consisted of 94 seniors, 56 juniors, 39 sophomores and eight freshmen.

Haverford finished the season 10-8 in 2016, making the Centennial Conference playoffs for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
