Field Hockey Announces 2017 Schedule

Full 2017 Schedule

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team will host nine home games at Swan Field as part of a 16 game slate in 2017. The Fords will look for a repeat trip to the Centennial Conference tournament after reaching the Centennial playoffs for the third straight season and the seventh time in eight years.

After hosting the annual Alumnae game on Saturday, August 26, the Fords will open up the regular season on Friday, September 1 at Swan Field against Alvernia in a Friday evening contest. The homestand continues with a game against Cabrini on Wednesday, September 6 before the Fords head up to Eastern for the first road contest of the season (Sept. 9).

Another two game homestand brings Immaculata (Sept. 12) and Lebanon Valley (Sept. 13) to campus on back-to-back days before Haverford makes the jaunt to Rowan for a contest on September 16. The Fords will play their fifth home game of the month on September 20 in the conference opener against Muhlenberg before the first two-game road swing brings trips to Franklin & Marshall (Sept. 23) and Misericordia (Sept. 27). The month wraps up with a home matinee against Johns Hopkins, the first Saturday home date of the semester.

October brings road games at Ursinus (Oct. 4) and Gettysburg (Oct. 7) ahead of a homestand featuring a pair of Maryland-based schools in Washington College (Oct. 11) and McDaniel (Oct. 14).

In 2016, the Fords had one of their best weeks of the season against the competition from the Old Line State. Haverford notched a 4-1 takedown of McDaniel at home on Senior Day before prevailing in a double-overtime thriller against Washington College in the home finale.

The shutout win over Washington College clinched a playoff appearance for the Fords. The win represented the Fords first two-overtime contest since the 2005 campaign and helped the Fords even the all-time series with the Shorewomen.

The Fords play at Dickinson (Oct. 21) and at Bryn Mawr (Oct. 25) before wrapping up the regular season slate at home against Hood Trophy rival Swarthmore (Oct. 28).

Centennial Conference tournament play is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, November 1 before semifinal and final action takes place on Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5.

Last season, the Fords (10-8, 6-4 Centennial) returned to the postseason, falling 4-3 in overtime to Dickinson in the first round of playoff action. All-Centennial performers midfielder Stephanie Terrell and goalkeeper Danielle Rette return for their senior seasons in 2017.
