HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team has been selected to finish fifth in the Centennial Conference by a vote of the conference's coaches, the conference office announced on Monday morning. Haverford received 63 total votes. The ranking was determined solely by a vote of the conference head coaches and coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Ursinus was picked to repeat its 2016 title (97 points, seven first place votes) while Franklin & Marshall picked up 92 total votes and three first place tallies. Muhlenberg was third with 79 total votes and one first place vote. Dickinson received 75 votes to finish in fourth.

Trailing Haverford in the prognostication was Gettysburg (50 points), Johns Hopkins (47 points), Washington College (42 points), McDaniel (29 points), Swarthmore (20 points) and Bryn Mawr (10 points).

Last season, Haverford finished 10-8 (6-4 Centennial) and returned to the postseason for the second consecutive season and the seventh time overall. In the first round of the Centennial Conference tournament, Haverford fell 4-3 to Dickinson in a double overtime thriller in Carlisle, Pa.

Haverford won 10 games for the sixth time in seven seasons under head coach Jackie Cox, a feat that had only been achieved four times before her arrival to campus. Haverford will expect to contend for the Centennial Conference playoffs yet again as Stephanie Terrell and Danielle Rette return from All-Centennial Conference seasons and will look to provide senior leadership.

The squad loses just two starters to graduation (Natalie Leslie and Nicole Witte).  Haverford will return most all of its scoring offense as Paige Carson and Mason McNulty headline the forward line with 32 of 36 goals returning.

Haverford will host Alvernia for the 2017 season opener on September 1 at Swan Field. The Centennial Conference season gets underway with a road contest at Muhlenberg on September 20.
