RADNOR, Pa. – On the opening day of the 2018 season, the Haverford College field hockey team (1-0) picked up an 3-0 win over host Cabrini (0-1) at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Haverford has now won its last four season openers dating back to the 2015 campaign.

Haverford peppered the cage with shot attempts in the first half, earning seven penalty corners and firing four shots on frame in the opening stanza.

The Fords broke through in the 32nd minute as Roxy Vassighi gained separation from her defender with a nifty move and fired from the top of the circle, slotting the ball past Cavaliers goalkeeper Devon Scharf for the first goal of the season and a 1-0 Haverford lead. At the intermission, the Fords held an 11-2 advantage in shots.

Haverford added a second goal in the 40th minute after the Haverford attack was halted with just the keeper to beat by a hard challenge from Cabrini. A penalty stroke was awarded and Kelsey Chai drilled it home to double the advantage to 2-0 in favor of the visitors. First year Ravenel Davis added a goal in the 60th minute, as Charlotte Eisenberg sent in a cross-crease pass in to a waiting Davis on the left side of the goal. Davis hammered it home to give the Fords a three-score cushion.

The Fords dominated the offensive momentum of the contest with a 24-3 advantage in shots and a 15-5 advantage in penalty corners. First year goalkeeper Hannah Roth picked up her first collegiate win and shutout, stopping three shots on the afternoon. Scharf made 12 saves in a losing effort for Cabrini.

Haverford improves to 14-4 all-time against Cabrini. The Fords have not lost to the Cavaliers since the series restarted in 2015 after an eight-year hiatus. Haverford will be back in action on Sunday, September 2 at Alvernia. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. start. Last season, the Fords faced off with the Golden Wolves for the first time in 13 years, taking down the then-No. 18 ranked team in the nation by a 2-0 final at Swan Field.
