Four reach double-figures, but Fords unable to topple Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – Lucas Colombo, Brett Cohen, Gibby Graves and James Levine each reached double-figures in scoring Saturday afternoon for Haverford College's men's basketball team, but the Fords were unable to topple host Dickinson College in a 73-52 loss to the preseason Centennial Conference favorites in the league opener for both teams on the Red Devils' home court.

Haverford (2-2, 0-1 CC) trailed Dickinson (3-1, 1-0) by only a 27-24 count entering the intermission. A 19-5 run by the Red Devils to open the second half put the Fords on their heels and gave the hosts breathing room the rest of the way.

Haverford's Matt Sherman drilled a three-pointer at the 10:32 mark of the second stanza to bring the Fords back within eight at 48-40 but Dickinson answered with a 7-0 run to salt the game away.

Colombo, Cohen, Graves and Levine each scored 11 in the game. Only Garrett Johnson, with five points, and Sherman, with three, added to the team's attack, though. Graves led the Fords' efforts on the boards with five rebounds, but Dickinson out rebounded Haverford, 43-22, for the game.

The Red Devils were led by the trio of Brandon Angradi, Gerry Wixted, with 14 points each, and Steve Collins who chipped in with 12. Wixted pulled down 13 rebounds to complete the double-double.

The Fords continue their season Tuesday night with a road trip to Allentown, Pa., where they will face Muhlenberg College in another Centennial match-up.
