Four reach double-figures in loss at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Pa. – Louis Cipriano scored a team-high 12 points and Brett Cohen registered his fourth double-double in a row Saturday afternoon, but Haverford College saw a tight contest with host McDainiel College fade down the stretch in the Fords' 65-51 loss to the Green Terror in Centennial Conference men's basketball action.

Haverford (4-7, 0-6 CC) trailed throughout the entirety of the opening half but battled back from a 10-point deficit early in the second half to move ahead of the Green Terror (9-4, 4-2), 34-33, on a Matt Sherman layup.

The lead changed hands several times after that with Lucas Colombo's three-pointer giving the Fords the advantage at the 9:04 mark, and Cipriano draining a trey two minutes later to push Haverford in front, 45-44, again.

McDaniel, though, closed out the win on a 21-6 run that included eight converted free throws down the stretch as the Fords were forced to foul while in catch-up mode.

Haverford's 11-0 run early in the second half started with a Cohen layup followed by a Cipriano three-pointer before Sherman finished it off with three successive layups to propel the Fords into their first lead of the game.

The Green Terror countered by completing a strong afternoon from the floor, ending the day at 52 percent as well as pulling down a 35-25 edge in rebounding.

Cohen led all players on the glass with 11 rebounds and added 10 points. Colombo and Sherman also reached double-digits in the loss scoring 10 apiece.

Andrew Merlo's 19 points led the McDaniel attack. Phillip Perry, with 12 points, and Cameron Royster, with 10, helped Merlo in the offensive end.

Haverford continues Centennial action with its next game, a home date Tuesday at 8 p.m. against visiting Gettysburg College.
