LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall, a team receiving votes in the latest D3Hoops.com poll, used blistering shooting from the field to overtake the Haverford College men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference play. The first-place Diplomats (8-0, 4-0 CC) shot nearly 55-percent from the field to take down the Fords (2-5, 1-3 CC), 92-42.
Cedric Moune's double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds led the F&M offense that saw four players reach double figures in scoring. Bradon Federici (17 points) and Morgan Lee (12 points) helped pace the Diplomats' starting five, while Devin Figueroa did not miss a shot during his 16-point outburst from the bench.
Matt Sherman led the Fords on the afternoon with 14 points. Justin Winkler added eight points to the Haverford starting five. James Levine and Anthony Reyes each scored five points, while Gibby Graves and Walt Plumlee both scored four points to round out the offense's day.
The game started out innocently enough with Haverford matching Franklin & Marshall basket for basket as the score worked its way up to six-all just over four minutes into the contest. Sherman had a pair of early layups, while Winkler added the other basket. As impressive as the Diplomats offense was on the afternoon, it was the F&M defense that helped the hosts make a 23-1 run over the next 7:27.
The Diplomats never let up on the offensive end and took a 43-19 lead into the half. Franklin & Marshall finished the half 19-of-36 from the field, shooting over 52-percent. However, that offense would improve its efficiency over the final 20 minutes of play. During the second half, the Diplomats shot over 57-percent from the field, finishing the game 6-of-12 from beyond the arc.
Haverford saw nine different players come down with a rebound during Saturday's contest. Graves led the squad with six rebounds on the afternoon. He also added two assists and two blocks. Lucas Colombo also had two blocks on the afternoon, while Reyes come up with two steals.
Today's contest marked the close of Centennial Conference play for the men's basketball team for the 2014 calendar year. Until the Fords return to conference play on January 7 against Johns Hopkins, they will play a series of four non-conference games. The first of those contests will be the final home game of the calendar year next Saturday at 4 p.m. against Moravian.
