Men's Basketball Stopped by Gettysburg

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's basketball team was tripped up by Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon inside of the Gooding '84 Arena. The Bullets, a team receiving votes in the latest D3Hoops.com Poll, shot nearly 55 percent on the afternoon in their 67-32 Centennial Conference win.

Haverford's offense was led by Anthony Reyes, who scored 11 points off the bench. Walt Plumlee was the next highest scorer for the team as he finished his afternoon with seven points. It was a balanced attack for Gettysburg as all 13 players saw minutes in the game. Tanner Kirkpatrick's 7-of-10 night from the field netted him a game-high 16 points, while Cody Kiefer was just behind his teammate with 14 points in the contest.

The Fords brought the offensive tempo and defensive pressure early before Gettysburg weathered the storm and found its rhythm. Three-pointers from Joe Scibelli and Henry Stevens during two of the team's first three offensive possessions got the momentum going early. Kyle Goldfarb then made it three straight possessions with a basket as he knocked down a jumper to set the score at 8-1 - Haverford's largest lead it would hold on the afternoon.

When Gettysburg got things going on the offensive end, the comeback was very efficient. Countering the early edge from the Fords, the Bullets answered with a 12-0 run to take their first lead of the afternoon. Haverford responded with a pair of three pointers from Reyes and Plumlee to get back within a point, but could not reclaim the lead. The Bullets went on their second big run of the first half by scoring 12 of the final 14 points before the teams headed to the locker rooms.

The second half saw Gettysburg pick up right where it had left off as the Bullets hit 16 of their 26 shots from the field in the final 20 minutes en route to the conference victory.

Men's basketball will next travel to Muhlenberg this coming Wednesday for an 8 p.m. tip. This conference meeting will be preceded by the women's game between the Mules and Fords at 6 p.m. Haverford will be back at home next Saturday as the team will honor the three members of its graduating class prior to tip off.
