Scibelli Named Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Joe Scibelli has been named the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year as announced by conference officials. The Fords' standout freshman becomes the first player in program history to earn this conference honor.

Scibelli certainly made his presence known for the Fords in his first year on the team. His 7.8 rebounds per game led the team and ranked second among all players in the Centennial Conference. Included in that total were a school-record 151 defensive rebounds as he played in all 25 games during the regular season, and started 22 of those contests including each game during the 2016 calendar year. His rebound total grew to 8.2 boards per game in Centennial Conference matchups.

The Charlotte, N.C. native's 11.5 points per game ranked third in the Centennial Conference among all freshmen. One of the two freshmen to finish with more points per game was Scibelli's classmate, Kahlil Garnes, who averaged a team-best 12.2 points per night in his first season with the Fords. Scibelli finished with five double-doubles on the season. He totaled 10 or more points on 17 different occasions. He averaged 13.2 points per game in his final 19 games of the regular season, a stretch that including 16 of those double digit scoring outings.

The Fords' freshman class constituted seven of the roster's 14 players during the 2015-16 season. Those seven freshmen more than held their own in their first year of college. They combined for over 50 percent of the squad's output across all the major statistical categories, including just over 55 percent of the team's total offense and 60 percent of the team's total rebounds.

In addition to Scibelli, sophomore Jeremy Evans was Haverford's representative on the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team. Evans played in 22 of the team's 25 games and finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven steals. He is joined by nine representatives from the other conference schools.
